Self-Loving Night-Time Rituals: The Third Trimester

Since day one of my pregnancy, creating a self-loving night-time ritual has been crucial to me. However, I have realized how much this routine has changed during my pregnancy, depending on which trimester I have been in, as my needs have changed quite a lot, both emotionally and physically. I have written about my self-loving night-time routine during my first and second trimesters, so now I’ll be moving on to sharing the routine I’ve established for my third trimester. It has definitely changed, as my body has become heavier and the exhaustion I experienced during my first trimester has come back on a whole new level. Hopefully, you can find some inspiration.

Practice deep breathing
Deep breathing exercises can help calm the nervous system and reduce some of the stress you might be feeling. Take a few minutes before bed to focus on your breath, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly. I also find that this is a great way to prepare for birth, where being aware of your breathing is essential (or so I’ve heard).
Focus on positive affirmations
Positive affirmations can help shift your mindset as you approach your due date. I usually repeat phrases such as "I trust my body to give birth," or "I am strong and capable," to help me stay grounded and centered. This has given me a lot of calmness and confidence as labor is approaching.
Take a late-night walk
It has been so helpful for me to get out of my house and move my body, even just by going on a short walk. So if you're feeling restless or uncomfortable, a gentle walk could be a great way to release tension and get some fresh air before going to bed.

Practice self-massage
Giving yourself a massage can be a soothing and relaxing way to ease tension and promote relaxation. I always give myself a facial massage or a foot rub (or get my partner to do it) before going to bed, as it helps release some of the tension I’ve built up during the day and allows me to feel way more relaxed before going to bed.
Get plenty of rest
Rest is crucial during the third trimester, as your body is working hard to prepare for birth. I always aim for at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night, so I’m always in bed by 9-10 PM at the very latest, so that I am sure that my body gets the rest it needs.
Remember, self-love is essential during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester when our bodies are working overtime to prepare for labor and delivery. Take the time to create a night-time routine that works for you and your needs. Listen to your body, be kind to yourself, and enjoy this special time in your life.
